Discover DHL’s muse with author Annabel Abbs
We’re delighted to invite you to delve into the life of Frieda von Richthofen, whose name might be unfamiliar until you discover Frieda, an extraordinary evocation of her life as wife and muse to DH Lawrence (and so much more) when novelist Annabel Abbs talks here on 2 May at 7.30pm
Born into German aristocracy and essentially a woman who refused to compromise on what she considered the essentials of a life well led: to be known, to be loved and to be beloved, she nonetheless initially marries a disappointing Englishman named Ernest Weekley and finds herself trapped…until she encounters the penniless but dazzling DHL and embarks on a tempestuous love affair. Their relationship unleashes a creative whirlwind for DHL, but at a huge cost to Frieda.
Meticulously researched, sumptuously written and impossible to stop reading, Frieda reveals a vivid portrait of a woman who was to become the muse for one of the most famous works of 20th century literature, but who yearned to be viewed as an artist in her own right. Frieda is a stunning debut and a must-must-read, so do join us!
