Meet author Emily Critchley & discover Notes On My Family

Who doesn’t recall the cuckoo-in-the-nest view of their family from their teenage perspective a shudder and a wry smile? Author Emily Critchley has a keenly intelligent and heartfelt take on this trickiest of territories in her debut novel Notes On My Family, which looks at a classic 21st century chaotic family through the prism of 13 year old Louise and a  shambolic cast of friends, relations, teachers and neighbours.

Getting to grips with a blended family that encompasses her father dating a sixth former, her mother’s domestic meltdowns and her nan’s fervent spiritualism, Louise has ample material for the notes she records as diligently as if her family were under surveillance.

Emily instills her novel with warmth, humour and insight and will be launching it here on 23rd November at 7.30pm, a perfect occasion to join us and maybe even bring a teenager of your own along. Please email  us at if you’d like to attend

Breaking news: prescient thriller on the loose in N London

Monday 4th December 2017

Darkly humorous & zeitgeisty, The Breaking Of Liam Glass is a thriller of our times

When Aikido black belt toting screenwriter Charles Harris initially wrote north London social thriller The Breaking Of Liam Glass he had little idea how freakily prescient its knife crime, tabloid politics and fake news themes would turn out to be.

When a white teenage footballer is stabbed on a mixed race estate in Regents Park, a devious and ambitious local hack sees the story as his route to the top of the greasy tabloid pole.

What follows is a high octane plot that questions today’s world and values as the story unfurls to reveal a tangle of lies and deceit.

Author Charles Harris will be on hand at 7.30 on 4 December to talk about his novel, answer questions and sign copies of The Breaking Of Liam Glass. entry is free, but please call  or email if you’d like to attend or if you’d like a signed copy put aside or posted to you

Meet nascent National Treasure Nina Stibbe & get the lowdown on An Almost Perfect Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year goes the old song, so with extended families gathering, sibling gift expectations running at fever pitch, vegetables being boiled within an inch of their lives…what could *possibly* go awry?

Nothing, if we listen to the anecdotes and advice from writer Nina Stibbe, whose previous novels and autobiography Love Nina, A Man At The Helm and Paradise Lodge prove that she is perfect in almost every way, and her brand new delight, An Almost Perfect Christmas.

Nina will be talking about and signing copies of this little gem, which blends wry recollections, hilarious mishaps and sound advice, and serves them up in an enchanting little book which is simply crying out to be popped under the Christmas tree, on 11 Dec at 7.30.

Nina is one of the most delightful, warm and naturally funny authors we’ve ever hosted so we recommend attendance for all those in search of a bit of true cheer this Christmas…and once you’ve got a signed copy of An Almost Perfect Christmas, you’ve got Yuletide all sown up.

Entrance is free, but please email or call us to book your place
